Lace "bodysuit": Kimchi Blue from Urban Outfitters
Peplum Skirt: courtesy of Rosy Ruby (link here)
"Oui/Non Belt": ASOS
Shoes: Marco Gianni
What seems to be a top/bodysuit that I'm wearing was actually advertised to be more like a dress on Urban Outfitters! However being the silly person that I am, I didn't check the length measurements and received a "dress" for some, but an awkwardly long "top" for myself (as has happened many times!) It's an awkward length because I'm not short or tall enough to pull off either one lol.
Luckily the tight-fitting, bodycon material is not only easy to tuck into skirts/pants and wear as a bodysuit, but it actually also provides the perfect accompaniment to a peplum skirt. Peplum has been all the rage this year, but the extra flare can either flatter or completely disrupt your body shape. As this gorgeous turquoise mint one from Rosy Ruby adds extra volume to my hips, I opted for a tight-fitting top to create more of an hourglass silhouette. If you wear a cropped jacket/top with a peplum flare at the bottom, you should go for slim fit pants or skirts.
Peplum can be your best friend if you use it wisely- I worked this skirt in my favour by creating the illusion of wider hips so my waist looks smaller :) The key is to realise the peplum flare can already completely re-shape your natural silhouette, so you need to work around it to create balance :)

so much love for peplums!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely outfit, love it!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.onlyshoppingblog.com/
eee mint! i really like peplums too, but i can't seem to make it casual looking, peplum makes you look more mature and for the work place in my opinion haha
ReplyDeleteArrrrrrghhh so amazing <3
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit.
ReplyDeleteWould peplums fit wide hips nicely? I've been seeing it worn on so many people, and it always looks so nice! Anyway. The mint and lace looks great on you ^^
ReplyDeleteI just read in Marie Claire's "plus-size" section that curvier girls shouldn't be afraid of peplums, and I have some myself and it doesn't my wide hips look wider, rather it just accentuates my waist. :) I'd just stick to those that are cut as a circle rather than ruffled ones.
Deletewow, everything about whis outfit is perfect <3
ReplyDeleteReally beautiful skirt, you look amazing!

What a divine outfit Izzy! I love how the baby blue just pops out from the lace bodysuit - which is absolutely gorgeous. Haha a 'dress', fashion is versatile as they say! I love the silhouette the skirt is giving, it's absolutely perfect for you! And the peplum looks forgiving if someone is a pear-shape/apple-shaped with giving the illusion to hourglass figures c: or just to give a little oomph, the colour is so vibrant! I like to contrast peplum skirts with a vintage tee or something, just to clash the proper value of an A-line skirt like this but you've clearly demonstrated classy is timeless.
ReplyDeleteLove the colour! You're spot on about how peplum is the rage this year.. it's everywhere! I'm loving the trend though, it's so feminine yet it's still somewhat edgy. And I also agree that it's perfect for creating that hourglass figure. Very pretty outfit. :)
ReplyDeleteadorableee!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the colour palette for this look, the skirt pops so well!
ReplyDeleteI was dying to get my hands on the same belt, but it sold out before I could place an order :(
I'm definitely wanting to sample the peplum trend, but have quite wide hips, so am opting for a peplum top, instead :) xx
You perfectly combined the lace blouse with the peplum skirt :)
ReplyDeletehttp://anna-and-klaudia.blogspot.com/
Aw no, too bad about the length of the top/dress. I don't have anything peplum, but those are some good peplum-wearing tips!

Nice combination of black lace and mint skirt, wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI really love your outfits *A* I love the peplum skirt too~ It's a nice way to say hello to spring :D
ReplyDeleteLove it always better!
ReplyDeleteI personally prefer peplum skirts to shirts, because I reckon the shirt kind of makes people look a bit...wide, if you know what I mean. You look gorgeous in this skirt, and the tight bodysuit/dress/shirt (lol) matches the skirt so well! I'll have to find myself one soon for the summer :)
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit, Izzy! Very classy! :)

oh god, i HATE when that happens. I'm 5'11 (I knowwww) so everything is basically a shirt on me unless it's a maxi, so I feel your pain. But you reworked it in such a cute way- it goes so well with your peplum!
ReplyDeleteYour outfit posts are always so damn chic and sexy Izzy!! love love the colours especially your peplum skirt. it's really rarw to find such a shade and I have to say, this is perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of that asos oui/non belt. wish I could track down one soon too. wish you a lovely weekend dear ^.^

Catherine.
Ah, such wise words. I don't own anything peplum, but I definitely hope to change that someday in the future. And hahah, I completely understand the length issue - so many things I buy barely graze the bottom of my bum, that I pretty much always needs leggings underneath. XD
ReplyDeleteBeautiful outfit! I really like the pop of color from the mint. :)

ReplyDeleteAhhh, this outfit is SO seriously gorgeous! Totally digging how the black lace top contrasts perfectly with the pretty mint peplum skirt, almost giving it a bit of an edge. I'm also loving your cheeky OUI/NON belt and those beyond awesome cage heels! Loving this look. :)

I can't order things online that I think will be too short because, lo and behold, they are waaay too short, haha. You made good use of this one, though. It looks killer tucked under things so I expect you'll still get a lot of wear out of it.
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely gorgeous as always! Love that black lace top/dress and the peplum skirt is stunning on you.

ReplyDeleteinspiration from the little things
I really like the peplum trend (I adore the look on you and many others) but I haven't had the courage to try one out myself because I think it might actually be disruptive for my body shape. The color of the skirt if gorgeous and the belt is such a quirky item.
ReplyDeleteOrdering things online are fussy like that some times. The top looks amazing on you nonetheless.

I love your "matching" outfit to mine! That mint colored peplum skirt is gorgeous and I loveeee the lace bodysuit. Sorry it ended up being short on you. I don't even really think I have that long of a torso, but I always seem to find dresses or play suits that are like digging up into my ass. I know that was graphic, sorry. LOL. But you look amazing and very chic! <3

Peplum is my favourite trend this season! I feel it gives me a bit more shape yay. I love how the peplum on your skirt has a tapered pointy bit- the ones I've seen so far in the shops are just the plain straight-across ones and I like yours heaps better! :D x misstea & co.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and ladylike! Love the colour of the skirt, looks just divine on your skin! Love the location of the shoot also sweetie! Beautiful! Love Barbie xxx

It gives really interesting dimensions, and I love the pop of color, plus the belt really adds something.
ReplyDeleteI do that all the time with 'dresses'! I have a really long torso, so anything mini length is always more like a long top on me too, annoying! The photography & light here is just beautiful, as is your outfit. The mint colour looks really great on you & I love peplums too, but my favourite piece is the belt!

I'm really in love with the peplum craze. I think it's really flattering to a range of people. The kimchi blue colour is really gorgeous. It reminds me of these leather bags my store carries, we call it "dusty blue" and they sell crazy well.
ReplyDeleteI really like the belt too actually! The shirt/dress ... buahaha that's a pretty funny story. I'd probably be a little upset after receiving it but hey, you can obviously still work with it! No spilled milk here!
