Romantic Rocker

Blouse: c/o Ash Lapin (link here)
Skirt: c/o Ash Lapin (link here)
Leather vest: c/o Ash Lapin (link here)
Hat: Cotton On
Wedges: Therapy

I know it's a general rule in fashion to not put two voluminous items together to avoid looking frumpy, but I loved the combination of textures between the floral cutouts of the blouse and the three-dimensional swirls and ridges of this rose applique skirt. Definitely took a risk with this outfit and hopefully it didn't turn out to be a disaster! After giving my long hair the chop a few days ago, it just felt right to also challenge the romantic and feminine feel of the whole outfit with a tougher biker vest. All these items are available at Ash Lapin, a new Singapore-based online store with the most amazing range of unique and creative pieces.

If you notice a slight decline in photo shoot quality it's because these photos were taken using my cheap little camera and lens, rather than my boyfriend's as usual. In addition to that the skies were really dark and it was even raining slightly, so I had to spend a lot of time finding free programs and editing the photos to make them look less washed out and dull! It was a good learning experience I guess- I now know how insanely dirty my lens filter is, and how I want to save up for a better camera & lens! :)

Do you guys ever have to do a lot of post-editing work for your photos?

  7. Maybe you're so pretty, I didn't even notice the difference in photos! :) Post editing though doesn't take too much of time. Sometimes the photos look fine in the playback but when I get them on the computer, they are all really exposed. It's annoying and should teach me to shoot in RAW format, but it takes too much time. LOL. Oh well. That's what iPhoto and Photoshop is for.

I love that skirt! The color is so rich and the whole outfit looks so cute with that hat! <3

  12. I personally like the texture on texture! As they say, rules are meant to be broken!

Hmm there is a noticeable difference, but seeing as how I use my phone to shoot, who am I to say anything? They look better than my pictures! I don't usually use a post-production processing system, but now that I have CS6 I will probably be editing it. Use pixlr, it's pretty decent for being free :)

I love your skirt in this outfit and it's perfectly combined with your leather jacket giving it this a rockish vibe. ♡ So a 'Yay' for breaking the rule! :D

  50. The skirt is stunning! The texture and colour make it so feminine and pretty. I don't really edit the photos on my makeup reviews post because I want the colours to show up as close to the swatches as possible (I am horrid at post editing >-<). I have been saving up for better camera equipments for quite some time but it is so expensive.

  51. 'Romantic Rocker' is such a perfect title for this outfit, I love the plumes of red and play with leather, I never thought something as textured as the skirt would work with leather. But it really is so luxe! Your hair is shorter! I hope you didn't have split ends or what have you, or if you did then now you'll promote lots of growth ouo I must check out Ash Lapin! I use Photoscape if ever I need to edit any photos. It's quite basic but gets the job done if need be. And once you upload a picture onto Photobucket, there a lots of editing tools which are great! But nonetheless, no cheap little camera could lie about these lovely photos :)

  82. Thanks so much for leaving such a lovely comment on my blog!! Thought I'd reply here as it's difficult to track replies on blogspot blogs ;) It's really kind of incredible to find another Sydney-sider who is into fashion (and dresses well by the way, matching two voluminous items of clothing is definitely always a good idea and looks great here!) and reads the young australian skeptics blog as well, I always thought my interests were pretty incongruous and that combination would be pretty rare to find together, haha. Very glad to have discovered your blog today!

I've never heard of that rule before…but then again, why follow rules? I think the combination of textures you created look amazing!

I have edit photos that came out too dim/dark. It's really annoying, but it's really rewarding when the result is what you had hoped for :)
