Choose Chambray

Chambray top with tie back: Lost in Lunar
Suede skirt: Boohoo
Bag: c/o Glassons
'Edgar' chelsea Boots: by Sol Sana, c/o Shopbop

Chambray is always a summer staple- it oozes breezy, casual cool girl vibes and I've been seeing it everywhere as the weather warms up.  It's been called denim's 'lighter cousin' and I can definitely see why! Chambray is the natural choice if you want a denim look without the fabric being as heavy and tough.

What really drew my attention to this shirt from Lost in Lunar, is definitely the back! This shirt is not your typical shirt, with a refreshing cropped cut and tie up at the back. Definitely helpful in summer to let some fresh air in!

I was also able to get my hands on these gorgeous black ankle boots by Sol Sana from Shopbop recently. The pebbled leather texture on these 'Edgar' boots sold me instantly, as it gives the boot a little bit extra whilst still being practical and versatile. You can find more lovely designs by Sol Sana here.

Here are some more pretty chambray choices:

Tularosa 'Otto' dress / Clu ruffle tee dress / Parker tie embroidered top / Thayer Sonne dress

Tularosa are no stranger to beautiful, romantic pieces! I can't get enough of this lovely high neck dress, especially the pretty touches of embroidery. Chambray is also a wonderful choice for beach cover ups, like this pretty off shoulder number by Thayer, with a dropped waist and ties for a relaxed casual look.

Off-shoulder cuts and chambray is a combination that works so naturally well! You can check out more off-shoulder goodness here.

Also Shopbop have a massive sale on at the moment, where you can save up to 25% off. This applies to anything that has 'GOBIG16' written on it! The sale goes on until Tues 29 November so make sure you take advantage of it (perhaps stock up on Xmas presents?) :)

Compleat Me

Two piece pleated set: Princess Polly
'Daniella' ankle boots: c/o Linzi Shoes
Bag: Colette by Colette Hayman

I think I've rekindled my love for pleats recently- something about their movement, femininity and fierce resilience to folds and wrinkles has mesmerised me once again. I couldn't help but purchase this little two piece set from Princess Polly during Vogue's online shopping night last month. Matching sets always have this ability to convince me anything's a good deal- I can wear this like a one piece playsuit, or the top and shorts separately with other clothes.

I love taking photos in this little garden spot- my boyfriend always gets the lighting right and I especially love how it highlights the softness of the pleats. I have to say I am really enjoying slowing down with the blogging and social media these days. When I first started blogging I didn't intend to start getting overwhelmed with brand sponsorships, post deadlines and pressure for self-promotion. It was all about having fun with photography, styling outfits, connecting with like-minded people in the community, and working with select brands that I just adore. I feel like I am getting back to that now, and I'm really enjoying it.

I think these little ankle booties from Linzi are going to come a loong way with me from season to season. They look great with bare legs and a summery outfit, just as much as with jeans and several layers on top! The punch hole pattern is dainty and feminine and the block heel makes these boots so comfy.

Have a look at some other lovely ankle boot choices:
Sam Edelman Taye booties in Golden caramel / See by Chloe Jamie booties / Jeffrey Campbell Cromwell suede booties in taupe
Club Monaco Brooklyn booties in black / Aquazurra Downtown booties / Jerome Dreyfuss Patricia booties

It might seem crazy to take neutral shades very seriously- but it sure becomes important when you start looking for that precise colour to match your neutral bag or accessories! Sam Edelman sure know how to put out a stylish boot, and this soft golden caramel shade is sure to be flattering on anyone. A grittier colour in khaki/ taupe like these ones from Jerome Dreyfuss and Jeffrey Campbell also add a bit of edge. You can find a whole haven of stylish ankle booties from Shopbop here.

And if you can't get enough of pleats like me, here are some more pretty pleated picks below:
Alexander Wang pleated off shoulder top / Club Monaco pleated skirt in gold / Line & Dot Amelie pleated dress / ALC Bobby skirt in rose gold

Pleats are hot right now and even more so in metallic form- this skirt from Club Monaco is sure to turn heads in a beautiful green-gold shade. This skirt from ALC in slightly thicker accordion pleats and a striking rose gold shade, will also make a dramatic entrance!

The Prettiest Cami

Floral cami: c/o Glassons (sold out currently- check out more camis here)
Jeans: Gmarket
Black bag: c/o Glassons
Cardigan: Forever 21
'Chaeli' taupe Shoes: c/o DSW

I may have expressed my love for silky, luxe camis maybe once, or twice, or a hundred times on my blog...who can resist? I love how this one features an elegant, soft floral print that helps prevent it from becoming too pyjama or lingerie-like. I can see so many outfit possibilities with the cami...but today I went for a breezy, casual vibe with jeans and my favourite knit from Forever 21.

I'm also favouring neutral coloured shoes as well these days- I've realised how lazy I am with matching my shoes to my bag, and neutral shades make outfit-planning a cinch! These nude ones are called 'Chaeli' from DSW and they are so comfy too- with a chunky heel and a cushioned sole.

Have a look at some more lovely camis I've spotted recently:
MATIN black silk square neck cami / Vince satin camisole EDUN Button Silk Layer Camisole / Jenni Kayne Tie Cami

A square neck cami is such a wonderfully, simple piece that steals the show with clean, angular lines. Matin is a brand born in Australia and features a lot of similar pieces that are unique yet understated. Add some lustrous sheen to your cami perfect for summer nights, with Vince. This cami comes in two delectable colours- champagne and coffee!

It doesn't stop there with the silky goodness- try out some of these other styles below:

Try something bold with a pyjama-style blouse from Intropia- pair with jeans or something with structure to avoid looking like you're just getting ready for bed. Or perhaps go for a more subtle touch of silk, with this lovely black silk skirt with elegant lace and mesh detailing from Stone Cold Fox.

Make a statement with some of the luscious jumpsuits by Tibi! I especially adore this pintucked silk jumpsuit, with the pleated bodice and beautiful olive green colour. And of course the silk bomber trend is still here to stay for a little while longer. This bomber from Opening Ceremony mixes tough with girly with embroidered sequins and delicate floral print.

Earthy Vibes

'the military blouse' in ivory: c/o L'Academie
'morning view coat' in khaki: c/o Lovers + Friends
Boots: Verali
Denim shorts: Tobi

I don't think the weather here can decide what it wants to be- I'm constantly switching between my summer wardrobe to my winter wardrobe on a regular basis! When you want to go for a season-proof look with minimal fuss, it's best to fall back upon transitional pieces and neutral colours. I'm particularly unable to let go of my love for olive or khaki shades just yet- and this long trench by Lovers + Friends does the trick.

I'm also just discovering and falling in love with silky, luxurious blouses by L'Academie- this military-style one feels such a dream to wear and is so unique with the button down front. I've just ordered this in khaki as well (of course).

Both the blouse and trench are from Revolve- and they're at it again with another 20% off sale! This time it's simple- with one coupon code, site-wide, and for 3 days only:

About Fulfilment

White jumpsuit: c/o Glassons
Bag: Colette by Colette Hayman
Metallic slide shoes:  c/o Glassons

Recently I've been coming to terms with the concept of personal fulfilment, and what you need to do to achieve it. Have you ever thought that you were going down the right path, but upon reaching the end you don't get the satisfaction, sense of relief or high that you were expecting? I've come to realise that by being driven by someone else's ambitions, definition of success and goals, you can still feel deeply uncomfortable, anxious and unsettled- even when you've achieved everything you thought you wanted to achieve, and even when you've passed and surpassed the standards you thought you wanted to meet.

It's through deep self-reflection when you figure out what actually gives you joy, comfort and purpose in your life. It's through listening to and understanding your intuition and values that you may suddenly realise you're on a course of path that doesn't align with them at all.

So, I've been cutting back on a few things that I've been doing that are more damaging than constructive, and focusing more on things that are positive influences. For example cutting back on social media and cutting back on pitting myself endlessly against unattainable beauty standards, steering away from toxic people, and chasing passions and wisdom instead of chasing money. At the same time I've been trying really hard to step back a bit, minimise the clutter in my brain and life, calm my mind and all the stressful and chaotic thoughts- and as a result I've been finding my thoughts are clearer, I have more focus, I'm more relaxed and I can sleep better!

Moving on to the outfit, I tried to do a new look with something flowy, loose-fitting and kind of dramatic (normally I prefer tighter fitted styles). This white jumpsuit from Glassons caught my eye because it was a look I've never done before- and plus doesn't it just look like the comfiest thing ever? True to appearances, it was a dream to walk around in and I'm now an avid fan of wide-legged white pants. The tie at the waist was a lifesaver to prevent myself looking like a shapeless white bag. Paired with the metallic slides also from Glassons, I felt summer-ready instantly!

Here are some more outfit ideas to rock an all-white look:

I love the look of a white dress with white sneakers for a fresh and girly feel. Choosing the right kind of dress to pair with sneakers can be tricky- my tip is to go with something that has a casual vibe, for example by having tee sleeves, or a flared skirt for a feminine girly look. You can check out more casual dresses here that would be perfect to pair with sneakers as well.

A backpack can always tone a look down- I love this gorgeous tan leather one called 'Rhea' from Michael Kors. Michael Kors have a beautiful range of stylish but practical backpacks!

This is another favourite white combo as well- structured pieces such as a fitted blazer and culottes say business-savvy like no other! This lace up top by Rime Arodaky paired with matching lace up heels by Aquazzura add just that extra touch of flirtiness.

Kate Spade also have some beautiful accessories to complete the look. I particularly love this 'Kiernan' tote bag which perfectly fits a laptop or iPad, so you can get study or work done on the go! And how pretty is this 'Holland' watch- the white and gold finish complement this look superbly.

Another tip for rocking a monochrome look without looking bland or overwhelming, is to wear items that have a point of difference- whether it be a dramatically different shape, texture, or tonal changes. Pairing an off-shoulder top with a looser fit than the skinny jeans as well as the crochet detailing, helps create a point of difference that avoids the whole outfit blending together into one homogenous image. Off shoulder tops are all the rage at the moment so why not take the chance to try out this look? :)

Floral on Darker Ground

It's no secret that florals are timeless and can be transitioned from summer to winter! However I find the ambience of the floral print shifts from bright and tropical, to dark, moody and romantic when the weather cools down. So naturally one of the top trends for fall takes on the ubiquitous floral print, but on a darker ground.

I sifted through my blog to find some pictures on how I've worn florals on a darker base in different ways! I've always been a huge fan of florals so it wasn't hard to round up various outfits featuring this trend!

Monochrome florals are a wonderful way to try florals if they're not usually your thing! Black and white blooms are also highly versatile as they don't scream one season over another- you can take them anywhere throughout the year.

Light florals over a dark base can also be perfect for a boho or festival-inspired look, to add a bit of an edginess! In the third look I paired a two-piece floral set with a long crochet cardigan to balance out all the skin-baring.

There's also no reason why this trend can't be embraced during warmer weather! If the florals are on a darker base, it would make sense to complement that piece with a light piece (like something white) to keep it summery and light. In the first outfit I wore semi-sheer mesh jumper over a floral romper, with a fun fresh mint satchel bag.

Also one of my favourite ways of putting together an outfit with florals, is adding pieces that pick up all the colour tones in that floral piece. For example in the second outfit I picked up the different shades of blue in this lovely watercolour floral cami, with a statement necklace and royal blue clutch bag.

I find that there are two key looks that can be created through a floral print on a darker background; dark and bohemian suitable for the cooler seasons, or light and romantic which works whilst its still warm or for spring.

The first look is more moody, and the red, orange and taupe shades of the outfit reflect the tones of autumn. I always love the look of a floaty, floral dress paired together with a tough biker jacket- a contrast that works so well every time! Free People dresses hit the nail on the head every time with their dreamy boho prints and loose fit!

Lace up boots are also highly essential, for a shoe option that's equal parts practical and trendy. Suede is still really big at the moment so embrace the 70's throwback while you still can!

The second look features a dress by Yumi Kim with white/purple florals, which creates a much more vibrant and dynamic impact contrasted against the dark background of the dress! I can see this dress fitting perfectly in some kind of spring soiree, with some beautiful neutral accessories and a glass of champagne :)

Watches have really taken off in the past few years or so, as the ultimate accessory you need to complete an outfit (without even needing to use it to tell the time!) This one from Marc Jacobs caught my eye immediately- the rose gold finish and striking face convinces me you can pretty much pair it with any outfit in your closet! See more beautiful watches from Shopbop here.

Jumpsuits from Day to Night

'Mola' Black jumpsuit: c/o Motel Rocks
Clutch: c/o Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
Heels: c/o Spicy Avenue (old)

A long jumpsuit is something I surprisingly have never owned in my wardrobe! I think I just hadn't found a jumpsuit that was flattering enough- it was either unforgivingly tight (like a Catwoman costume!) or loose and sloppy in all the wrong places. When you're wearing just one piece from head to toe, it can be hard to get it right!

I took the plunge and tried out this black jumpsuit from Motel Rocks, and thankfully it was so flattering and easy to wear! The subtle cutouts at the sides are really the magic key to making this jumpsuit work- they cinch your waist in, and the way the jumpsuit falls loosely around your hips provides a recipe for instant curves! :)

Black and White Jumpsuits

Now that this piece has piqued my interest again in jumpsuits, I found some other elegant choices in black and white! The first one from Alice McCall is a little daring with a lingerie-inspired bodice and a wide-legged cut for a flattering silhouette. I'm finding this whole Alice McCall collection to be full of lacy, sheer and boudoir goodness!

The second one by Black Halo really caught my eye- you can wear it as a jumpsuit or wear the top and pants separately! Personally I think the all-white look looks incredible and definitely motivates me to tone up my midriff a bit more. There's something so dreamy and ethereal about wide-legged white pants, don't you think? You can check out all the other gorgeous jumpsuits Shopbop has to offer here.

How to take a Jumpsuit from Day to Night

Day:

Night:

I thought I would also include some ideas/inspiration on how to wear a long black jumpsuit for day and for night. I for one, definitely struggled to figure out how to style my Motel jumpsuit when I first saw it!

The jumpsuit I'm styling the 'day' and 'night' outfits with above is called 'Abner' from Cupcakes and Cashmere, and has a loose, streamlined shape with a comfy elastic waistband and wide legs. Its simple and no-fuss design makes it ideal to wear during the day and looks amazing in a boho-inspired look with an aztec printed bucket bag, comfy wedges, and topped off with a structured straw hat. Keep your shoulders warm and the outfit casual, with a cropped denim jacket in a light wash.

For a night outfit you can go for matching black accessories for a classic look (like I did above), or try complementing the jumpsuit with deep red accessories like these Sam Edelman lace up heels and classic chain bag by Botkier in saffiano leather. Jazz up the simplicity of the jumpsuit with a black jewel necklace for some embellishment, and throw over a sleek and tailored cream or white blazer. I especially love this one by Veronica Beard- the fit is so perfect and would be great for your work wardrobe as well!
