The Hunt

skirt: sass & bide at Myer
Shoes: Adidas Stan Smith at Platypus Shoes
Tee: Sportsgirl
Denim jacket: Supre
Jewellery: Colette by Colette Hayman

All of these items were purchased at the above stores at Westpoint Shopping Centre (Blacktown, Sydney).

Recently I participated in a 'Hunt' at Westpoint Shopping Centre, where we had to source four outfits,  on a budget, in a matter of hours! This resulted in a lot of running back and forth to different stores to check prices and range, sore arms and heaps of fun. How could I complain about a shopping spree marathon? After all, my boyfriend commented that shopping was what I do best.

Putting together trendy outfits wasn't difficult at Westpoint, as they have a fantastic mix of low to mid-tier fashion retailers. Being on a tight budget, I was able to piece together some affordable gems from Supre and Sportsgirl, yet also add this designer treasure by sass & bide!

The sass & bide fringe skirt is from the Myer in Westpoint, and is a gorgeous statement piece which I wanted to steal the show- so I kept the rest of the outfit relatively simple. A white denim jacket casually draped over the shoulders says effortless cool like nothing else, and the graphic tee toughens the look up. And of course, no street-smart look is complete nowadays without a pair of funky sneakers. You can always count on white on white to evoke a fresh, summer feel!

What do you think of this outfit, which I pieced together at Westpoint in a few hours? More from this exciting campaign to come soon! You can check out my videos with all the fashion bloggers on their Facebook page here.

Military Hues

'Gold rush' lurex tank c/o Mink Pink
Khaki trench coat: c/o Mink Pink

Green is a colour I definitely want to wear more often! There's something about this earthy tone of green/brown that is so understated but classic. White in my opinion is probably the best shade to pair with khaki- and you can see below some other outfits that mix with white for a fail-safe colour combination. I wanted to play and experiment with other variations of green and yellow as well, so I went for this shiny lurex-style cropped knit in a dirty chartreuse shade, and darker boots in a colour closer to taupe and brown.

There are so many other ways you can wear this beautiful khaki green! Now that fall is coming up for everyone who resides in the Northern Hemisphere (over in Australia we're opposite seasons so spring is arriving for us!) naturally styles will shift towards a more earthy colour palette. Consequently all the jackets and coats coming out now are in beautiful mustards, wine reds, greys and khakis! You can go for a long-line khaki cardigan like the one I'm wearing, which is quite lightweight and perfect for transitioning from warmer temperatures.

Alternatively you can opt for a shorter, smarter shape with a cropped blazer jacket! You can check out the range from Shopbop here. Now that the runways are bringing a consistent military theme back in style, look even more polished and sleek with luxurious gold buttons and shoulder pads for added structure. My favourite is this little pea coat by Tibi, featuring a pop of red piping trim on one side for a striking contrast.

5. Furla Metropolis Top handle mini cross body bag in Gold/ 6. BCBG pleated maxi skirt/ 7. Zac Posen Earthette bag / 8. Paige Margot jeans

This amazing Anika dress by Shoshanna instantly caught my eye as well- it's like the military jackets above transformed into a dress! Once again, the buttons down the front give a polished finish and you can easily wear it with boots or tights.

Don't forget about complementing accessories as well! Furla stock so many cute and versatile satchel and cross body bags, in a huge range of colours to suit any outfit. This one called 'Metropolis' will prevent your outfit looking overly monochrome or dull, with a textured gold metallic finish that's still neutral.

With shoes, it's all about boots moving into the next season, and I'm actually quite impressed with Kendall and Kylie's footwear range! Both the boots pictured are from their range, and are reasonably priced. Go for a Victorian touch with the lace-up style on both the front and back of the grey 'Liza' booties, or a classic pointed toe and comfy stacked heel with the olive 'Finley' booties.

You're the Bomb(er)

black silky cami: c/o Glassons
silk look bomber jacket:  c/o Glassons (currently sold out)
suede look cap: Boohoo
pleated white skirt: Gmarket
Shoes: Adidas Superstars

The layering of silk upon silk just feels way too luxurious, to actually wear the garments properly! The fabric glides off the skin so easily and I love how cool and smooth it is to touch. Both my black bomber jacket and silk cami top are from Glassons, and they are so lightweight, comfy and are basically a dream to wear. When it starts getting hot in Australia these would be the perfect light and airy layers to get you through from stinking hot afternoons to summer nights.

I went for a sporty look (once again proving sneakers can be paired with anything!) but you can definitely dress up the pieces for a fancier date night! That's the beauty of black silk- there's something about it that instantly evokes luxury, mystery and effortless glam. The cami is only $30 as well so it's definitely a steal :)

For the Love of Suede

suede 'Zarina' shirt: c/o Honey and Beau
suede Boots: Boohoo

How luxurious and soft is suede? Ever since the 70s started coming back I've been really embracing this gorgeous fabric. The rich emerald green shade on this Honey and Beau shirt makes it feel even more decadent, and is a classic jewel colour perfect for injecting a pop of colour during winter time. It also makes it unique amongst all the tans and greys suede normally comes in!

About Self Confidence

'Talisman' playsuit: Bec and Bridge
Heels: c/o Lost Ink
Leather jacket: Forever New
Clutch: c/o Target x Jean Paul Gaultier

There's something about wearing a leather jacket and a pair of killer heels to inject a good dose of self-confidence in yourself! Transform your thoughts from "I can't do it" and "I'm not enough" to "I got this". I did a photoshoot recently for a pretty exciting campaign (all shall be revealed in due time!) and it was a little nerve-racking. Not so much because I didn't know what to do, but when you start comparing yourself to other people, you start doubting your abilities and appearance and eventually start wondering why the heck you even got picked to be there. A distressed inner voice starts piping up and asks questions like "Was it a mistake?" and "Don't people realise I'm not actually that great compared to all these amazing people"? I'm sure we've been on that mental journey before!

The thing is we are often so much better than we think- what we see inside could be a completely different picture to how others view us. Instead of thinking everyone is looking at you with eyes of disdain or disappointment, in reality they could be having thoughts of envy, respect or even reverence. Cut through all the insults or failures you may have experienced over the years and start remembering all the compliments and times you felt good about yourself. When I think about the fact that people could potentially be looking up to me, I immediately hold myself better just in the hope to inspire them to be the best they can possibly be. Everyone has their own talents and abilities other people could be wishing they possessed- so everyone has a reason to feel proud about themselves :)

LVL Hair

hair straightener brush: c/o LVL Hair

Have you ever heard of a brush that straightens hair at the same time? As an avid fan of multi-tasking and efficiency,  this product by LVL hair piqued my interest as it claims to straighten your locks in 5 minutes using a heated brush.

So I decided to test it out! My hair is not overly curly so the before and after results are not whoppingly drastic- but they still have some kinks and waves in it and I was curious to see if the LVL Hair straightener brush would smooth them all out.

Before: my hair in its natural state!

Using the brush- all you need to do is plug the brush in, turn it on, and wait around 1 minute for it to warm up. During that time you'll start to see the temperature on the LCD blue screen get higher and higher. Depending on your hair or how straight you want it to be, you can set it up to 230 degrees.

You can use the control panels under the brush (where my index finger is) to set the temperature. I chose a relatively low temp (between 175 degrees to 185 degrees) just to test what results a relatively low heat would produce on my hair.

After: my hair is a lot sleeker and straighter for sure! As mentioned above, I chose relatively low heat settings and you can still see a big difference. The whole process was quick and painless- the brush contains anti-burn technology as the bristles don't heat up which provides a safe barrier between my scalp and the ceramic hot plate. It also contains anti-static technology which helps tame frizzy and thick hair, and you can see some of the results on clients with varying hair types here.

Overall, I adore efficiency and it was great to be able to brush out all the knots in my hair whilst at the same time straightening them! If I need to go out really quickly I would probably use the LVL hair straightening brush as I did in 5 minutes, but if I needed super sleek results I would probably turn the temperature up higher as well as apply some hair serum afterwards. Have you guys ever heard of a heated hair straightening brush before?
