Floral on Darker Ground

It's no secret that florals are timeless and can be transitioned from summer to winter! However I find the ambience of the floral print shifts from bright and tropical, to dark, moody and romantic when the weather cools down. So naturally one of the top trends for fall takes on the ubiquitous floral print, but on a darker ground.

I sifted through my blog to find some pictures on how I've worn florals on a darker base in different ways! I've always been a huge fan of florals so it wasn't hard to round up various outfits featuring this trend!

Monochrome florals are a wonderful way to try florals if they're not usually your thing! Black and white blooms are also highly versatile as they don't scream one season over another- you can take them anywhere throughout the year.

Light florals over a dark base can also be perfect for a boho or festival-inspired look, to add a bit of an edginess! In the third look I paired a two-piece floral set with a long crochet cardigan to balance out all the skin-baring.

There's also no reason why this trend can't be embraced during warmer weather! If the florals are on a darker base, it would make sense to complement that piece with a light piece (like something white) to keep it summery and light. In the first outfit I wore semi-sheer mesh jumper over a floral romper, with a fun fresh mint satchel bag.

Also one of my favourite ways of putting together an outfit with florals, is adding pieces that pick up all the colour tones in that floral piece. For example in the second outfit I picked up the different shades of blue in this lovely watercolour floral cami, with a statement necklace and royal blue clutch bag.

I find that there are two key looks that can be created through a floral print on a darker background; dark and bohemian suitable for the cooler seasons, or light and romantic which works whilst its still warm or for spring.

The first look is more moody, and the red, orange and taupe shades of the outfit reflect the tones of autumn. I always love the look of a floaty, floral dress paired together with a tough biker jacket- a contrast that works so well every time! Free People dresses hit the nail on the head every time with their dreamy boho prints and loose fit!

Lace up boots are also highly essential, for a shoe option that's equal parts practical and trendy. Suede is still really big at the moment so embrace the 70's throwback while you still can!

The second look features a dress by Yumi Kim with white/purple florals, which creates a much more vibrant and dynamic impact contrasted against the dark background of the dress! I can see this dress fitting perfectly in some kind of spring soiree, with some beautiful neutral accessories and a glass of champagne :)

Watches have really taken off in the past few years or so, as the ultimate accessory you need to complete an outfit (without even needing to use it to tell the time!) This one from Marc Jacobs caught my eye immediately- the rose gold finish and striking face convinces me you can pretty much pair it with any outfit in your closet! See more beautiful watches from Shopbop here.

Jumpsuits from Day to Night

'Mola' Black jumpsuit: c/o Motel Rocks
Clutch: c/o Jean Paul Gaultier for Target
Heels: c/o Spicy Avenue (old)

A long jumpsuit is something I surprisingly have never owned in my wardrobe! I think I just hadn't found a jumpsuit that was flattering enough- it was either unforgivingly tight (like a Catwoman costume!) or loose and sloppy in all the wrong places. When you're wearing just one piece from head to toe, it can be hard to get it right!

I took the plunge and tried out this black jumpsuit from Motel Rocks, and thankfully it was so flattering and easy to wear! The subtle cutouts at the sides are really the magic key to making this jumpsuit work- they cinch your waist in, and the way the jumpsuit falls loosely around your hips provides a recipe for instant curves! :)

Black and White Jumpsuits

Now that this piece has piqued my interest again in jumpsuits, I found some other elegant choices in black and white! The first one from Alice McCall is a little daring with a lingerie-inspired bodice and a wide-legged cut for a flattering silhouette. I'm finding this whole Alice McCall collection to be full of lacy, sheer and boudoir goodness!

The second one by Black Halo really caught my eye- you can wear it as a jumpsuit or wear the top and pants separately! Personally I think the all-white look looks incredible and definitely motivates me to tone up my midriff a bit more. There's something so dreamy and ethereal about wide-legged white pants, don't you think? You can check out all the other gorgeous jumpsuits Shopbop has to offer here.

How to take a Jumpsuit from Day to Night

I thought I would also include some ideas/inspiration on how to wear a long black jumpsuit for day and for night. I for one, definitely struggled to figure out how to style my Motel jumpsuit when I first saw it!

The jumpsuit I'm styling the 'day' and 'night' outfits with above is called 'Abner' from Cupcakes and Cashmere, and has a loose, streamlined shape with a comfy elastic waistband and wide legs. Its simple and no-fuss design makes it ideal to wear during the day and looks amazing in a boho-inspired look with an aztec printed bucket bag, comfy wedges, and topped off with a structured straw hat. Keep your shoulders warm and the outfit casual, with a cropped denim jacket in a light wash.

For a night outfit you can go for matching black accessories for a classic look (like I did above), or try complementing the jumpsuit with deep red accessories like these Sam Edelman lace up heels and classic chain bag by Botkier in saffiano leather. Jazz up the simplicity of the jumpsuit with a black jewel necklace for some embellishment, and throw over a sleek and tailored cream or white blazer. I especially love this one by Veronica Beard- the fit is so perfect and would be great for your work wardrobe as well!

Wine o'Clock

Floral playsuit: c/o Hipster (from my 'Hunt' )
'Maise' shoulder bag: c/o Kate Spade (from Shopbop)
Raye x Tularosa 'Luna' heel: c/o Revolve

Yes that's right- it's the same playsuit from the previous blog post, in a different floral print! Haha I hope you're not sick of it yet. When I saw the playsuit back in Westpoint Shopping Centre, the off-shoulder cut and flowy sleeves convinced me it was so nice I had to buy it twice :) This time however the floral print is much darker, edgier and a little bit vampy- inspiring me to pick up the purples on the playsuit with matching accessories in dark wine shades.

How lovely are these new tassled shoes? I have so much love for Raye and Tularosa, and like a dream team the two brands have paired up together to produce this gem of a collab, in the form of mulled wine and fringed 70's goodness. They also come in a lovely versatile taupe shade here from Revolve. Also keep your eyes peeled for anything you fancy on the Revolve site- they have a big exciting sale coming up so you wouldn't want to miss out! :)

And if you've been following my blog or Instagram in the past few weeks or so you'll have read all about my Hunt at Westpoint Shopping Centre...and if you've stepped into the shopping centre last week you'll have seen my face plastered on the digital billboards! Right next to the billboards are a stand of little 'hype' publications which are like little magazines featuring all the goodies I purchased from Westpoint. You can see what they look like in the pic below. What a crazy, surreal experience it was...and I feel so grateful to have had this opportunity! :)

Tropical Dreaming

Floral playsuit: Hipster
Clutch bag: Colette by Colette Hayman
Jewellery: Colette by Colette Hayman
Shoes: Betts

All of these items were purchased at the above stores at Westpoint Shopping Centre (Blacktown, Sydney).

This is my second outfit that I put together, from an exciting shopping centre "Hunt" that I mentioned in the last post! :) If you missed out on what it was all about, I ran around Westpoint Shopping Centre trying to piece together summer outfits in a few hours. Going to Hipster was a no-brainer; it's a store I used to frequent quite often so I knew it would have fun, summer playsuits and dresses, and I wasn't disappointed! I received a lot of compliments on this playsuit, from the store owner to random passers-by to my boyfriend - so I'm definitely pleased with this choice! :)

This playsuit is the embodiment of all things trendy in Summer 2016 - off shoulder and bell sleeves, and a bright, punchy floral print. How dreamy do the sleeves look with the sunlight behind them? This is also a look that can be elevated from day to night, by adding sky-high black platform heels (from Betts) and a classy clutch (from Colette by Colette Hayman).

I also have a Hype publication out this week - you can find it distributed all around Westpoint shopping centre in Blacktown! :)

This post is sponsored by Nuffnang and Westpoint Shopping Centre.

Check Mate

checkered coat: c/o Tobi
Corduroy skirt: c/o Glassons
Scarf: Gmarket
Boots: Boohoo

This is probably (hopefully) the last winter look I upload for a while! Spring has just started and I'm already loving how the daylight is just that extra bit longer when I come home from work! It definitely helps with blogging because during winter I can only take photos during the weekend.

Grid print or checkered print is always a classic way to enliven a winter look- a bold, eye-catching print speaks volumes without having to stray from a dark colour palette. I kept the rest of my outfit fairly simple with only a pop of red in the cami top inside, to let this coat from Tobi stand out. I also quite like the slightly loose, boxy fit of the coat- it's always flattering and also provides ample room for adding a cable knit sweater inside when the temperatures really drop!
